Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry

As many of my baseball-loving friends begin to enjoy the postseason, I'd like to commiserate with my fellow Metsies one last time before switching my focus to the NHL. Dan Barry wrote this three years ago, but it's even more appropriate today than it was then:

The sleepless children of Queens would ask: "What's that sound, Daddy? It's making me sad." Their fathers would answer: "That's Mr. Met, my child, crying for us all."

You and about five million other people. What happened was that last year's team showed up during May and June, then was secretly replaced by Folger's Crystals for the remainder of the season. Suffice it to say that the opposition did notice the difference.

I logged on specifically to share something with you Dave - courtesy of my brother who is a Phils fan but lives in Manhattan - an article from the Post written 8/27.

That wasn't pro-Met propaganda. That was the conventional wisdom at the time. When they say that a team has never blown such a huge lead in such a short period, they really mean it.

I agree/I know. However baseball is like the most superstitous of the sports, you'd think the writers wouldn't go and jinx things like that.
